Market Days 2018, Sat., Aug. 11 and Sun., Aug. 12 in Boystown

Grammy-nominated singer Ty Herndon brings his message of love and acceptance - especially for LGBTQ youth - to the Market Days stage on Aug. 11.

Herndon, who began topping the country music charts nearly 20 years ago, came out publicly as a gay man during a People magazine cover story in November 2014.

"I have struggled with being gay my entire career and life," Herndon told ChicagoPride.com just days after the People interview. "Of course, I've had so much support from my friends and close family that supported me, that knew I was gay. But it's been so freeing for the fans to know; the fans in country music, especially. They have really been supportive and awesome."

As a country music artist, Herndon's impressive career includes four million in album sales, a Grammy nomination, Dove Award, 17 Billboard hits and three number-one hits: "What Mattered Most," "Living in a Moment," and "It Must Be Love."

In 2015, Herndon again made history when he hosted the first-of-its-kind country music event, The Concert For Love and Acceptance, designed to bring attention and support to at-risk youth. He also participated in the recording of "Hands," a musical tribute to the memory of the 49 people -- most of them LGBTQ and Latinx -- killed in the senseless act of gun violence at Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016.

The 56-year-old country artist was recently honored with a 2018 HRC Visibility Award.

Ty Herndon performs the Roscoe Stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 11. The 37th annual Northalsted Market Days, which is organized by the Northalsted Business Alliance, runs Aug. 11-12 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Halsted Street between Belmont and Addison. A $10 suggested donation is recommended.
