Chicago Police release surveillance images of the wanted vehicle moments before the fatal hit-and-run

Chicago, IL - Chicago Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver that killed a 56-year-old woman Thursday night in Boystown.

Investigators say the woman, identified as Dorata Gieslinska, was crossing westbound on Halsted just after 9 p.m. when she was hit by a red Jeep Renegade in the 3300-block of North Halsted. The driver did not stop and continued southbound on Halsted.

Witnesses tried to assist the woman while one good samaritan performed CPR, but she was pronounced dead at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

"I heard a thud," witness Keith Van told NBC Chicago. "Several people ran out of the DS Tequila restaurant and they told me that she was hit by a red Jeep and she hit the windshield, apparently rolled off the hood and then the truck ran over her."

There are several surveillance cameras at the bars and businesses near Halsted and Buckingham, where the fatal hit-and-run happened. Investigators hope those may have captured images of the offender's vehicle.

The intersection in the busy Boystown entertainment district of Lakeview is marked for pedestrian traffic and has stop signs for oncoming vehicles.

The Major Accidents Unit is investigating. No one is in custody.

Update 11:50AM April 20: Chicago Police have issued a community alert that includes surveillance images of the wanted vehicle taken moments before the fatal accident. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 312-745-4521 Reference RD# JB-230425.
