Scene and be Seen

Chicago, IL - All the buzz on the street is about who's going to be the new crew for Sundays at Crobar's ANTHEM. Many speculations………no confirmations……We'll have to wait and see. Also, what eight year Halsted St. haunt is going through a DJ overhaul as we speak? They are supposedly looking for fresh meat in their line up and will be making some changes come October. Stay tuned for more details.

WHAT HAVE YOU MISSED? Let's see…...Mark Anthony (DJ Greg Drescher interviews Mark Anthony) at Circuit back on the 13th had the sissies living with funky dirty dark sounds that some Chicagoans just aren't used to. Circuit kept its crowd all night as the Canadian threw down the sounds. Fat Tuesdays at the Logan Square Auditorium hosted Gene Farris back on the 16th of September. With a 5$ admission, Dust Traxx promotions couldn't go wrong. A way cute night for the House heads. Transit hosted the Return of Material on Septermber 18th. Derrick Carter, Diz and Josh Werner relived their night from Shelter that started the funk House phenom. Those in attendance shrieked with delight as the 3 tossed it up like Pizza Chicago Style. Abel spun a marathon set at Hydrate back on the 21st until 4am. He worked the children like only the Cubano can! Abel, if you are reading this column, I want my black ankle strap heels back that you stole over Market Daze! If you missed Pistachio at Circus night club, then……….you missed it. The night is no more. The promoters had a great concept and a great cast & crew, but with little cooperation from the club itself, it didn't last.

WHAT ARE YOU MISSING? There seems to be a lot of things going on around and about Chicago now that Autumn has settled in. Wednesday nights at Hydrate are becoming all the rage with diva Taj Mahal and her drag-ettes tearing up the stage. Stop by some time and check the mucho fun show. Textured Productions presents PASSPORT at My Bar on Saturday nights. No, not my bar, but My Bar located at 3555 N Ashland. The theme is downbeat, trip hop, NuJazz and dub. The sounds are turned by DJ Architektur until 3am. For those of the South Side presuasion, Play Co. kicks off its new night "Themes From A Neon City". The night seems a little wordy, but it's located in a huge space at 2101 s China Place and boasts DJ's Matt Palmer, Jay Prasad and Sasha Navarro. THE BITCH IS BACK! Saturday nights belong to Psycho-bitch at Zentra as she starts her new venture there. Have you been to Manhole re-loaded yet? Fridays at Hydrate are Da Bomb as Jim Lewis makes the house his home. Wednesdays at Joy Blue Lounge (1401W. Irving Park) are simply SPICEY. SPICE, with DJ's Tony Garcia and Rob Thurmond, offer no cover and drink specials all night. This means you should go there to get trashed early, then head to Halsted St. for sass.

WHAT YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS!!: Alyson Calagna will be wo-manning the decks at Hydrate on the 28th of September (Sunday). Her previous performance went over so well with the gals at Club Wet, that they asked her back to make them sweat again. Cedric of Music 101 and Janel Roland (one of my favorites) will be tearing down the House at Zentra on the 26th of September. Byron Stingley will be belting out the notes on October 3rd also at the house of Zen. METRO and SmartBar combine forces for "Hit The Decks" on Ocober 3rd. The night boasts 4 promoters (music 101, SmartBar, Pure, & Spundae), 4 DJs from each team, and 4 turntables. This is going to be fun to watch. Names like Lego, John Curly, Justin Long, Ron Carroll and Jes will be battling it out. Frankie Knuckles returns to Hydrate on October 5th to take the children to Sunday Skool. As mentioned, Anthem has a preliminary kick off date of October 12th @ the new and improved Crobar. October 25th brings "Hallow-queen" to Circuit night club, with DJ's Suzie Wong and Shanda Leer throwing down. Hostess Lady Bunny brings performances and contests all night for this queenie event. Halloween night, Friday October 31st, brings Boy George to Zentra, with opening DJ's beginning at 8pm and going into the Boy's set. Local gals Chris Eterno and DJ Jeremy are a part of this opening set as part of "Chance Chicago". And last, but not least, Saturday November 1st, Brad Altman hosts his 3rd annual PIMPS AND HO's party at Transit. Bring your pimp and smack yo' bitch down for this jiggy haunt.

Well, that's it for now kids. Remember, don't shit where you eat………..because the after dinner mints don't taste so good.
