Miss Foozie greeted crowds at the ChicagoPride.com booth
Northalsted Market Days, the Midwest's largest outdoor street fest, kicked off Saturday in Chicago's Boystown neighborhood. The two-day festival continues Sunday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
The festival opened Saturday to picture perfect weather, which is expected to continue again Sunday. The National Weather Service is calling for sunny to partly sunny skies and comfortable high temperatures between 74 and 78 degrees.
"Pretty much nice weather for the whole weekend," said Gino Izzi, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
Organizers expect nearly 300,000 people from around the world will visit the festival before it closes Sunday night.
Chicago-area native Steve Grand delivered a powerful performance to a full crowd on Saturday afternoon.
"I was taken aback by how many people were out there to see my show," he told ChicagoPride.com. "It's nice to see, as an artist, being supported by your home city like that."
'Queen of Bounce' Big Freedia, 10,000 Maniacs, plus the the cello and vocal duo Branden & James are scheduled to perform on Sunday. Also in the mix are newcomers and Chicago mainstays – like 16 Candles and Catfight – all split between five entertainment stages.
The 36th annual Northalsted Market Days festival, presented by the Northalsted Business Alliance, takes place on Saturday, Aug. 12 and Sunday, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event runs down Halsted Street from Belmont to Addison. A $10 suggested donation is requested at the entrance. ChicagoPride.com is a proud media sponsor.
