Sprint launches speedy 4G service in Chicago

Sprint brings wireless speeds up to 10 times faster than today’s 3G

Sprint has rolled out its blazing WiMAX broadband service in Chicago offering 4G mobile broadband throughout the area. The fourth-generation, or 4G, exceeds 3G connections with download speeds that are 10 times faster resulting in faster file downloads and uploads, speedy web browsing, streaming video and more.
The Sprint WiMAX service is essentially a hotspot designed to reach across Chicago so customers can take advantage of their wireless mobile broadband anywhere without being tied to connecting at home, office or coffee shop.
"Sprint continues to lead the charge in rolling out wireless 4G in cities across America and the momentum continues to build," said Todd Rowley, vice president of Sprint 4G. "Our aggressive expansion of Sprint 4G will include many new devices and capabilities that create increased performance and productivity while enhancing personal lifestyles on the go."
Customers in Chicago need a 4G-compatible modem to use the service. Sprint is offering the U300, a USB modem that allows customers to use 3G where 4G service is not in place. The U300 is available at Sprint stores and Best Buy locations in the Chicago area.
Sprint is currently offering new 4G/3G data plans for consumers at $69.99 monthly with unlimited 4G and 4G/3G data plans for businesses at $69.99 with unlimited 4G and unlimited 3G on the Sprint network. Sprint customers traveling into Chicago or other 4G markets will have the option of purchasing a $10 day-pass which enables Sprint 4G on their device for 24 hours.
In addition to Chicago, Sprint has added WiMAX service in Dallas-Fort Worth and in three North Carolina markets as of November 2.
Other markets expected to see Sprint roll out 4G in 2010 include Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
