A man and a woman were shot during an armed robbery this morning in the Lakeview East neighborhood on the North Side, police said.
About 3:15 a.m., the offender approached the male and female, both in their 20s, in the 500 block of West Stratford Place and, in the act of snatching the woman's purse, opened fire, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. Greer said she did not know if the two put up a fight before being shot or why the gunman opened fire.
The male victim was struck in the side while the female was wounded in the leg, Greer said; The offender fled the scene.
Both victims were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to Greer, but their conditions are not known at this time. No one is in custody at this time.
