Alex Newell headlines Sunday entertainment line-up
Northalsted Market Days, the Midwest's largest outdoor street fest, kicked off Saturday in Chicago's Boystown neighborhood. The two-day festival continues Sunday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
The event opened Saturday morning to sunshine and steamy temperatures which continued throughout the day. The Northalsted Business Alliance expects nearly 180,000 people from around the world will visit the festival before it closes Sunday night.
"Market Days is even bigger than Pride in Chicago," Anthony DiFiore, Neverland founder and Creative Director, told ChicagoPride.com.
Neverland, the Chicago-based dance producer known for its elaborate themes and production, kicked off Market Days weekend on Friday with 'Imperial Harem', the company's most extravagant event ever.
On Sunday, Singer and actor Alex Newell, who came to fame playing Unique on FOX's hit show Glee in 2011, will headline the entertainment line-up, bringing his powerhouse vocals and dance-pop to the Addison Stage at 5:45.
After winning over fans on the show with his big voice, Newell gained additional screen-time on the show. By Glee's fifth season, Unique was promoted to a main character of the ensemble cast, rocking a club-remix of Beyonce's "Diva," which went viral on YouTube.
"Playing Unique hasn't changed how I feel about myself," Newell told Out Magazine. "But it has changed how I hold myself. Unique is so confident that I found myself [saying], 'You need to be the role model that your character intends you to be.'"
However, it's Newell's moves as a musical artist that has him working with some of the biggest names in Hollywood today.
Newell's powerhouse vocals shine on "Need Somebody," and most recently, the charitable single "Hands" honoring the victims of the Orlando shooting. Other singers like Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Selena Gomez also sang on the track.
Also in Sunday's mix are newcomers and Chicago mainstays – like 16 Candles, Catfight, Wedding Banned and Boyband Review – all split between four stages. You'll find the full Sunday line-up below.
The 35th annual Northalsted Market Days festival takes place on Aug. 13-14 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event runs down Halsted Street from Belmont to Addison. A $10 suggested donation is requested at the entrance. ChicagoPride.com is a proud media sponsor.
