Hilary Rodham Clinton Welcomes IOC to Chicago

Chicago, IL - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton issued a welcome today to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission members who are visiting Chicago as part of an official visit to assess the city's bid to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The secretary's greetings came in a video that was played for the IOC's Evaluation Commission during presentations on the city's plan by officials of Chicago 2016. Secretary Clinton was born in Chicago and raised in suburban Park Ridge, IL.

In the message, Secretary Clinton said: "As a native Chicagoan, it's a pleasure to address you in support of the city's bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. If Chicago is selected the 2016 Host City, I want to tell you that the United States will welcome the world with open arms. Indeed, the Games offer an important opportunity for the world to celebrate the common aspirations of all people and to show our universal appreciation of the skill and talent of the world's greatest athletes."
