Opus publisher Dane Tidwell missing, colleagues continue search

Chicago, IL - Dane Tidwell, CEO of Opus Media, who has been active for many years in LGBT media circles and politics, has gone missing, according to reports.

Tidwell was last seen Aug. 13, according to a Facebook post by Gerald Farinas, editor and news director of the Opus sites.

"If you know Dane's whereabouts, we are looking for him. He is 5'11" 165 lbs. with hazel eyes," wrote Farinas on the Aug. 15 posting. "He has a cropped beard with grey patches. He wears thick black acetate-rimmed glasses—but left them behind. He is without his phone, IDs and wallet. He was last seen leaving my apartment building at 1040 W. Granville Ave. on Aug. 13 at noon."

Tidwell had been active in a number of LGBT media enterprises in recent years. Opus News had evolved from the Chicago Phoenix website, which Tidwell and colleagues launched following an attempt to overhaul Gay Chicago Magazine, shortly before that publication went out of business in 2011. He also worked for Stonewall Democrats and several political campaigns. In 2010, he attempted to market software that aggregated consumer data for political marketing.

Anyone with information on Tidwell's whereabouts should contact Farinas by text at (312) 350-1200 or by email at gfarinas@gmail.com.
