Chicago, IL -
About Face Theatre which specializes in work with gay and lesbian themes is reportedly facing a major financial crisis that threatens the theatre's future.
Bonnie Metzgar, the new artistic director of About Face, tells the Tribune's Theatre Loop blog that the organization is facing a serious, recession-induced cash crunch and must raise at least $300,000 just to stay alive.
"We are today launching a save-the-theater campaign," Metzgar said Wednesday, adding that she did not currently know how she was going to make her payroll next week.
This is the first Equity-affiliated theater in Chicago to confront such a crisis in public.
About Face Theatre is accepting donations online or by calling 773-784-8565.
