Chicago, IL - Donald Cortelyou of MidAmerica Bank was unanimously reelected President of the Bailiwick Repertory Company at a recent meeting of the Board of Directors. "These are difficult times for nonprofit arts organizations," said Cortelyou. "Grants and donations that are essential for continued operation are down from last year, threatening the survival of many organizations - including Bailiwick."

Jay Deratany of Deratany and Carden and Garth Person of SBC were reelected Vice President and Secretary, respectively. Paul Eber, former President and CEO of Elm Resources, was elected Treasurer.

Artistic Director David Zak states, "There is a perception that Bailiwick, as it begins its 22nd season, is a community anchor that will always be around. While Bailiwick has enjoyed many artistic successes and the long run of Naked Boys Singing!, additional grants, donations, and attendance all are necessary for us to continue the new play development and community based initiatives - Deaf Bailiwick Artists, Out All Year, Lesbian Theater Initiative, and Kids of All Kinds - that are essential to our artistic health."

Founded in 1982, Bailiwick is dedicated to achieving the vision of gifted directors while representing the diversity of our community on our stages. Operating on an annual budget of $900,000 with a full time staff of three, Bailiwick produces more plays and projects than any organization of its size with its Mainstage Series and its community based auxiliary programs.

Bailiwick has been recognized regionally and nationally for its community based programs with awards from the Human Rights Campaign, Chicago Hearing Society, After Dark Awards, Joseph Jefferson Committee, and Black Theater Alliance Awards. Mayor Daley has inducted Bailiwick into the City of Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame.
