Chicago, IL - In an historic year for our country, fellow Chicagoan and Senator Barack Obama has been elected President of the United States.

At 10PM CST, approximately 125,000 (according to the Chicago Fire Department) people gathered at Chicago's Grant Park cheered as President-elect Barack Obama received the electoral votes from four of the five last remaining states to close their polls - Oregon, Washington, California and Hawaii.

In addition to key Democratic states, major networks have projected Obama wins in several key battleground states - Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida.

The Associated Press reports that John McCain phoned Barack Obama to concede defeat shortly after the west coast states were called for Obama.

At 10:19PM CST, John McCain gave his concession speech to his supporters in Phoenix, AZ.

Barack Obama becomes the first African-American to win the presidency.

"I don't know if I'm dreaming," said Michael Eck, a Chicago resident. "I can still remember the election when I went to bed thinking that Al Gore had won, only to wake up to the news that he didn't."

Via Facebook, TV's "Who Wants to be a Supermodel" Ronnie Kroell exclaimed, "Yes we can, yes he did, yes WE will!!"

In his acceptance speech, Obama echoed the heart of his campaign, "At this defining moment, Change has come to America."
