London, UK -
Out singer Sam Smith believes that the world has changed for gay artists.
The 22-year-old Smith also told The Telegraph that he's no longer fixated on finding a relationship.
Smith first publicly discussed his sexual orientation in an interview with The Fader, saying that his hit single In the Lonely Hour is about unrequited love between himself and another man.
"Obviously, I want to fall in love and stuff, but I don't yearn for it every day like I used to," Smith said. "It sounds so cheesy but my fans have completely filled that hole."
He added that he's had no issue with being open about his sexuality.
"Past gay artists, things have happened to them that haven't been great," he said. "All I can say is I'm so unbelievably surprised and happy at how far the world has come, because there have been no issues."
Smith is also one of the four out celebrities featured on the covers of gay glossy Out's Out100 double issue.
