Michael Sam is among the six celebrities named GQ's Men (and Women) of 2014.
Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted by the NFL, was cut by the St. Louis Rams before the start of the season. He then joined the Cowboys' 10-man practice squad, where he stayed for seven weeks before being let go.
GQ is also honoring four actors and a comedian: Chris Pratt of Guardians of the Galaxy, Steve Carell of Foxcatcher, Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley of The Fault in Our Stars, and Dave Chappelle.
The magazine revealed all six covers on Monday, along with a story on Chris Pratt. Additional stories will be released throughout the week.
The 24-year-old Sam is currently unsigned. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the newly-formed Las Vegas Outlaws, an Arena Football League team, plans to make an offer to Sam. An offer in the Canadian Football League is also a possibility.
