Scene and be Seen

Chicago, IL - A quick note everyone: This page went to press before Fireball was finished, so check back next issue for MZ Kii Kii's Burnin' Firepussy review.

Hey kids! What is up in the town of cows and corruption? This is MZ Kii Kii, the love child of Cha Cha and Danny (go rent the movie, you'll figure it out!) Our condolences out to the family of Stefano Alvera', owner of Domaine, on his passing recently. Domaine is a part of the kick that Chicago's nightlife needs and we do hope that this doesn't change the club's activity or halt operations in any way down at the big "D". Spundae met Pure on January 11th with turntable masterings by John Curly (Pure Chicago) and Scumfrog from New York - The kids report that this party was WAY cute. "Thank God almighty, free at last!" The Martin Luther King Day party featuring the turntable wings of David Moralez and Frankie Knuckles was without a doubt the best party Chicago has seen in a while. This is what the party scene SHOULD be about: Fun music, people of all colors, drag queens, circuit queens, straight, you name it………all in one room throwing it fiercely.

It's rare to walk into any club nowadays and see people actually smiling at one another and getting along. A "who's who" of industry people were spotted throughout the evening: Satoshi, Ralphi, Maurice……We thought we saw R. Kelley, but needless to say he was busy becoming acquainted with Cell Block C at Florida Correctional.

Music 101 @ Minx brought Chicago's Byron Stingly to the stage on January 23rd. He sang some of his Ten City classics for the children and word is it was smooth and fun. Tom McBride served it hot and spicy for Boi Magazine's 3rd Anniversary party at Excalibur on January 26th. DATELINE FEBRUARY 2ND: Daleyville saw mucho hapennins' on the 2nd with International DJ Greg Drescher spinning another Phoenix Nightlife event at Exaclibur. Mark Vallese threw the sounds around at Cellblock with the Beer Bust featuring the Fireball Boys and lastly SmartBar hosted the turntable trio/ re-mixers Dirty Vegas. INTERNATIONAL DJ GREG DRESCHER?!?! After spinning the Heart's Sunday event in the lounge at Excalibur, Greg will be jetting off to play in Isreal with the likes of Victor Calderone and Peter Rauhofer. Glad to see a local gal make is over seas. Happy Birthday, Bitch!!!! Psycho-Bitch and Teri Bristol dice it Hard and House at the Rainbo, 4836 N. Clark on February 6th for the Bitch Birthday Bash. February 7th sees west coast house DJ Dan team up with Derrick Carter @ House of Blues.

What local DJ had the pleasure of being tapped recently to mix Barbara Tucker's dance hits compilation for the Winter Music Conference? We aren't giving any names (Jeremy) but we hear his Saturday sets at Cocktail are tits and ass!!! From the files of DRAMA FO' YO' MAMMA: An certain re-mixer's private stash of music recently ended up on the net and word on the vine is that he's none too happy about it. Do you blame him? How would you like NOT to get paid for the fruits of your labor? Remember children that even though "everyone's doing it", downloading music without paying for it is still illegal. On a Monday's eve recently Lisa Lexus, J. J. and the Children all showed up at Felt on a whim. Within a couple of minutes, the stage was theirs and fabulous performances ensued. Have we ever mentioned exactly how fierce J. J. is? VERY THAT WAY! Miami + Winter = FUN. Just a reminder to the Chi-gals: The 10th annual Winter Party approaches March 1st - 10th. For the musically inclined, the 18th annual Winter Music Conference kicks off March 18th - 22nd. Until next time children, remember to moisturize properly!!!!
