Daniel Radcliffe to Show His Magic Wand in Broadway's 'Equus'

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe reveals his magic wand to Broadway audiences this September playing a tormented stable boy in Equus. Radcliffe reprises the role that garnered him critical acclaim during its eight-week London run in 2007. In addition to the rave reviews, Radcliffe wowed audiences by stripping down to the nude and proving that Harry Potter was all grown up.
The first revival of Peter Shaffer's Tony Award winning play since its original run from 1974 – 1977, Radcliffe's slated for his Broadway debut with a 22-week run as Alan Strang, the sexually aberrant teen who blinds six horses.
Joining Radcliffe, 18,for the New York City production is his Harry Potter co-star Richard Griffiths—who plays Harry's Uncle Vernon in the series—as psychologist Dr. Martin Dysart.
"It will be amazing, but I will be terrified because I was talking to Richard Griffiths about playing New York and he said the most stupid thing you can do is underestimate New York audiences," Radcliffe told Reuters in an interview last September. "I would be very nervous because I think (the audiences are) even more discerning than in London."
While Radcliffe's new to New York audiences, Griffiths, who's also reprising his role from Equus' London run, cut his teeth on Broadway in the 2006 production of The History Boys.
Originally produced in London in 1973, Equus enjoyed a four-year run in New York before being adapted into the 1977 Oscar-nominated film, starring Richard Burton and Peter Firth.
