Chicago, IL -
Ald. Tom Tunney plans to close his Ann Sather location in Andersonville at the end of the year, leaving just three locations on the city's North Side.
Crain's Chicago Business reports the 44th Ward alderman and owner of Ann Sather has sold the building housing his restaurant at 5207 N. Clark St.
"After careful consideration, I decided to consolidate our Andersonville-area restaurants at our newest location at 1147 West Granville," Tunney said in a news release. "To ensure an orderly transition, I negotiated leasing back the restaurant through the end of the year. Our additional locations at 909 W. Belmont and 3411 N. Broadway also will remain open and are not affected by this business decision."
Tunney bought the Ann Sather location along Belmont on February 1, 1980 - he was just 24-years-old. The area was not known as Boystown at the time.
"Ann Sather was a small, little place and then like one or two other stores and everything else was burned out," recalled Tunney in a June 20, 2013 interview with ChicagoPride.com.
The Andersonville location was opened by Tunney in 1987.
