Baltimore, MD -
Brendon Ayanbadejo, who was recently cut from the Baltimore Ravens, said that several NFL players are going to come out sometime soon.
"I think it will happen sooner than you think," Ayanbadejo told the Baltimore Sun. "We're in talks with a handful of players who are considering it. There are up to four players being talked to right now and they're trying to be organized so they can come out on the same day together. It would make a major splash and take the pressure off one guy. It would be a monumental day if a handful or a few guys come out."
It would be the first time an active NFL player came out publicly and Ayanbadejo admitted there would be some backlash for the players.
"Of course, there would be backlash. If they could share the backlash, it would be more positive," he said. "It's cool. It's exciting."
The Ravens officially released Ayanbadejo on Thursday. The special teams standout, who has been outspoken on gay-rights issues, took to Twitter to make it clear he was cut because of his age not over his views.
"Just a heads up I did an interview today and no way said I was cut because my views," he tweeted. "I said my talk was louder than my production & at 36 when you are not producing it is a fair move. You can find cheaper guys to do what I do."
