Illinois Republicans may oust party chief over gay marriage support

Pat Brady, chairman of the Illinois GOP, is in jeopardy of losing his position over his support for gay marriage in Illinois. According to Greg Hinz of Crain's Chicago Business, a special meeting of Republican leaders has been called in an attempt to fire him following his public endorsement of legislation pending in the Illinois House which will legalize same-sex marriage in the state.
A March 9, 2013 of the party's state Central Committee is scheduled to determine his fate. Brady was elected as the State Chairman, an unpaid position, in August of 2009.
Hinz quotes Brady when the question was posed asking if he would change his mind on his supportive stance of gay marriage: "Absolutely not. The more and more I talk to people, the more I'm convinced. (It) is the right thing to do."
The ultra-conservative and anti-gay State Senator Jim Oberweis (R-25th District, IL), 66, is said to be spearheading the ouster attempt. Oberweis was elected to the legislature in November 2012 following multiple failures at attaining public office over the years.
Brady, 51, is an attorney and a former Federal and State Financial Crimes Prosecutor. He is married to Julie Brady, an attorney and former Department of Justice Honors Programs Prosecutor who currently serves as Special Counsel to the Cook County Sherriff. They live in the Fox Valley area of Illinois.
