Chicago, IL - "Scrooge and Marley," a gay adaptation of "A Christmas Carol," screened for the for first time over Thanksgiving weekend for audiences in Pasadena, California and premiers in Chicago with a special Opening Night Gala on Thursday, November 29. This modern-day variation of Dickens' classic holiday tale was shot here in Chicago, produced by Windy City Times' Tracy Baim and recently called "a sweet and distinctive spin on a holiday standard" by Alonso Duralde, the prominent film critic and author of "Have Yourself a Movie Little Christmas," the definitive book on holiday movies.

Dickens' 160-year-old story remains the same, but is "recounted from a gay sensibility with heart, comedy and music," destined to be a Christmas favorite for audiences "of all persuasions." "Scrooge and Marley" includes a beautiful score written by Lisa McQueen as well as performances by Megan Cavanaugh, Rusty Schwimmer and Jason Gould, Barbara Streisand's openly-gay son, who sings the movie's theme and special end credits song.

"It's a traditional Christmas movie that is unapologetically told from a gay perspective and that alone makes it a first," Knight, Jr. told ChicagoPride.com. "This is one for ‘my people!'"

The premiere event will kick off on November 29 with a classic Hollywood red carpet premiere at 6:30 p.m. at the historic Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport, which Knight calls "the perfect place to debut a Christmas movie with a traditional, heartwarming flavor." There are three tiers of tickets available for the event. A $12 regular admission ticket grants access to the screening at 7:00 p.m. as well as a post-screening Q&A with the cast and crew.

Attendees can also upgrade to a VIP level ticket for $125 dollars, which includes the screening and an after-party at D'Agostino's on Addison, or a gold-level VIP ticket, which grants access to the screening, post-party and an additional pre-reception with the cast and crew at Freda's Restaurant, 3755 N Southport, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. All of the stars, with the exception of Tim Kazursinky (Marley's ghost), who is starring in "The Odd Couple," will be present at the event - Bruce Vilanch, David Moretti, Ronnie Kroell, Rusty Schwimmer, JoJo Baby and many more, including Scrooge himself, Chicago-native David Pevsner.

"I've not had as much responsibility in a feature before as I'm a character guy, so it was an unbelievable experience to be so central -- I loved working with all these fantastic actors and spending so much time with our fantastic directors," Pevsner told ChicagoPride.com. "They say there's no such thing as small roles, but y'know I've played the small roles and this was way more fun."

Showings of "Scrooge and Marley" continue at the Music Box Theatre through December 6. The film will also be shown across the country throughout December, including in a special screening at the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and returns to Chicago on December 21 at the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N State St.
