Chicago, IL - Edgar Diaz, 21, of the 5600 block of W. Grand Ave was charged with attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery in connection with an attack that occurred on September 14, 2012 on the 100 block of W. Diversey, Chicago.

Diaz was charged after attacking an assistant Cook County State's Attorney in Lincoln Park. The 31 year old prosecutor, unnamed, was walking to meet a friend. He reportedly witnessed Diaz and an accomplice harassing two men, thought to be gay.

The two teens turned on the prosecutor when told to stop. Diaz, and his unknown associate who has yet to be charged, are alleged to have punched, kicked and cut the prosecutor with a broken beer bottle.

The prosecutor was initially treated at St. Joseph Hospital in Lincoln Park and then transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center. He has since been released.

Diaz is scheduled for court on September 24, 2012.
