NBC's Days Of Our Lives will debut an anti-gay bullying story for Freddie Smith's Sonny Kiriakis on Wed., Aug. 22 when Smith's character will be attacked by an old friend who believes he is trying to "make" him gay.
Smith told the Windy City Times that the show's approach will be different from what's been seen in the media.
"We're showing both sides of it," he said. "We'll see where Sonny is coming from, and where the bully is coming from. It'll be great to see people grow and mature."
Smith joined the cast of the NBC soap a year and a half ago, as the first gay character in the show's 47-year history.
"I'm totally consumed with Sonny," Smith told the Times. "I live and breathe Sonny. This story is going to be intense."
Before joining Days Of Our Lives Smith played Marco, the gay love interest of Teddy (Trevor Donovan) on the CW's 90210.
