Bomb and arson investigators called to Lakeview neighborhood

Several buildings in the Lakeview neighborhood were evacuated this afternoon after bomb and arson investigators found several explosive devices in one of the buildings, police said.
Officials have called for a hazardous materials response to the 900 block of West Newport Avenue after investigators found several devices in the basement of a building there, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.
Investigators responded shortly before 4 p.m. to a report of a possible explosive device. After investigators arrived they found the explosive devices and at 5 p.m. the elevated the incident to a hazardous material response.
Several buildings in the area were evacuated, Baety said.
Police were rerouting traffic away from the area, Baety said.
