NJ Gov. Chris Christie: 'Obama and I are the same on gay rights'

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who is a Republican, says he and President Barack Obama are on the same page when it comes to gay marriage.
Christie recently appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," and was asked, "Is there any space on your position on gay marriage and President Barack Obama's?"
"Not that I'm aware of," Christie said.
But New Jersey's Politifact said that's not quite true.
Christie vetoed a same-sex marriage bill in February and recommended the idea be put up for a popular vote.
President Obama is opposed to putting other people's rights up for a vote, perhaps because the civil rights movement still has a bit more resonance in the Obama household than in Christie's home.
"The President has long opposed … divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same-sex couples," said White House spokesperson Jay Carney.
However, Christie and Obama are similar in one way. Neither is leading the charge for same-sex marriage rights.
