Maryland Gov. O'Malley to sign gay marriage into law on Thursday

Annapolis, Maryland -
Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley will sign that state's gay marriage bill into law on Thursday afternoon, making it the eighth state in the union to allow same-sex marriage.
The bill signing is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET at the state house, reported the Baltimore Sun.
Maryland state lawmakers had tried unsuccessfully in past years to legalize gay marriage, but this year they crested over the vote totals needed.
Opponents of gay marriage are trying to get 50,000 signatures to get an anti-gay marriage referendum on the ballot.
The Washington Post said that polls show Maryland residents are split 50/50 on the issue.
Gays and lesbians won't actually be able to get married in Maryland until the summer of 2013, even if the bill stands.
