Omaha, Nebraska - Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Dakota Cochrane said he regrets appearing in gay porn films when he was younger, a job that earned him $80,000.

It's definitely a decision I regret," he told MMA Fighting. "If I would have known what would happen I definitely wouldn't have done it. But I had money issues and I needed help. I went there to do pictures, and they started throwing pretty high numbers in front of me. I didn't really think. It was a big mistake."

This week, FX announced that Cochrane, who grew up in the small town of Fairbury, Neb., was one of 32 finalists for their show "The Ultimate Fighter." And it wasn't long before some busy Googlers figured out that Cochrane had gone by the screen name "Danny" from the popular porn site Sean Cody, while a college student at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Cochrane said he is straight, and was dating his now fiancee, Lacey, at the time. The couple has two children and are planning to get married.

Cochrane said he did not hide his porn past when he approached Ultimate Fighting Championship.

"I could just hide in a hole and no one would know except for the people close to me," he said. "And to them, I was up front. I let them know right away so it wasn't anything that could come back and bite them in the butt. I think maybe they respected that a little bit. I think some people judge against it, some people will be OK with it. Some people will want me to get my butt kicked, and hopefully others will respect what I'm trying to do."

Some opponents have pulled out of fights because he appeared in porn films, his manager told MMAFighting.com.

Cochrane has won 11 of his 13 professional fights.

The winner of "The Ultimate Fighter" will receive a long-term, professional fighting contract.
