Hawaii, Delaware will offer civil unions starting January 1

Honolulu, Hawaii - Starting New Year's Day, gay and lesbian couples in Hawaii and Delaware will able to get join in civil unions.

Hawaii's law kicks in at midnight on New Year's Eve, but state offices won't be officially open until Tuesday, Jan. 3.

However, the state has created a website where couples can file for licenses, https://civilunion.ehawaii.gov,
and a website for FAQ: http://hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/vital-records/civilunion/index.html.

Civil union license fees in Hawaii are $60 plus a $5 administrative fee.

Delaware's law goes into effect at 10 a.m. Sunday. The fee is $50 if at least one applicant is a resident and $75 if not.
