Embroiled in marriage infidelity accusations, Cain suspends campaign

Atlanta, GA - Former Republican presidential front-runner Herman Cain, who opposes marriage equality, suspends campaign over marriage infidelity accusations.

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," Cain said at an event in Atlanta.

Cain joined a majority of the other GOP presidential candidates, including Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann, in opposition to gay marriage with his support for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the 1996 law that bars federal agencies and the military from recognizing the legal marriages of gay and lesbian couples.

Ironically it was allegations of his own sexual impropriety and marriage infidelity that derailed Cain's bid for the presidency. Cain continues to call those allegations "false" and "baseless."

Gingrich currently leads in polling for the Republican presidential nomination.

Gingrich, who has been divorced twice, married three times, and was involved in an extramarital affair at the same time he was leading the charge against President Bill Clinton for having an affair with Monica Lewinsky, also supports the federal ban on gay marriage that was approved while he was speaker of the House.

An ad attacking Gingrich for his marriage infidelity was released Friday by Iowans for Christian Leaders in Government.

Cain called the run for president "a dirty game."
