University requires employees to sign pledge that they are not gay

Employees at Shorter University in Georgia are being asked to sign statements promising they are not gay.
Shorter is a private, Christian university in Rome, Georgia.
Shorter University president Don Dowless told WSB-TV the goal "is not to offend people. Our goal is to declare who we are."
The school said the pledge is legally acceptable because they don't accept any federal funding. It's not clear if any students get federal financial aid, and if so, if that qualifies as "federal funding."
The pledge -- called a "Personal Lifestyle Statement" -- also requires the employee to promise not to engage in pre-marital sex or adultery. The university said violators might be fired.
"I think that anybody who adheres to a lifestyle that is outside of what the Bible mandate is would not be allowed to continue here," Dowless said.
