Chicago, IL - Howard Brown Health Center (HBHC) and Lesbian Community Cancer Project (LCCP) announced today a landmark collaborative relationship that will combine both organizations' resources to provide greater access to health care for the lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LBT) community.

The agreement, formally announced at a press conference Monday, serves to enhance LCCP's initiative to educate and advocate for the LBT population, and provide unprecedented access to universal health services ranging from comprehensive primary care to behavioral health and social services.

"Thirteen years ago, lesbians came together to form LCCP," said LCCP board chair Marsha East. "Today, LCCP is building on this history by working with Howard Brown to provide more comprehensive access to health care services for the lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community."

"This is an all-around exciting moment for Howard Brown and for LCCP," said HBHC Executive Director Keith Waterbrook. "There are so many women in our community who need and deserve the best health care, and by creating this programmatic alliance, we consolidate our strengths -- and everyone benefits immensely."

Howard Brown Health Center, the Midwest's premier LGBT health care organization, offers a myriad of medical and psychosocial services to female clients. The collaboration not only paves new avenues of health service to the LBT population, but also allows the two organizations to work more closely together toward common goals, including potential funding opportunities. Both will maintain their own individual identities and 501(c)3 status.

LCCP Executive Director Jessica Halem believes that, "LCCP's programming -- support groups for women with cancer and training programs for providers -- will be strengthened by our ability to share infrastructure and resources with Howard Brown. LCCP's ability to focus more on programming and less on infrastructure is a good thing for the health of Chicago's lesbian community."

"It is so amazing, the possibilities that exist here," said Dr. Leigh Roberts, Medical Director at Howard Brown. "I've seen so often when women tend to neglect periodic check ups and screenings. Working with LCCP, we'll have direct routes to so many of their constituents. This kind of care has been LCCP's goal all along, and that's exactly what Howard Brown can provide."
