Chaz Bono will compete in the upcoming season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars.

According to celebrity website TMZ.com, Bono has agreed to participate in the show and will be partnered with a female dancing professional.

The 42-year-old author-activist is the child of gay icon Cher and the late entertainer-politician Sonny Bono. His transition is the subject of the film Becoming Chaz, which premiered in May on nascent cabler the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). He's also written a memoir on the subject of his gender reassignment, Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man.

In June, Bono, actress Olympia Dukakis and celebrity chef Yigit Pura, star of cabler Bravo's Top Chef: Just Desserts helmed San Francisco's forty-first annual gay pride parade, one of the nation's largest community pride events.

Rumored to be competing against Bono on Dancing is actor David Arquette.

An ABC representative told E! Online that the network "will unveil the cast this coming Monday night live during Bachelor Pad on ABC."

The thirteenth season of Dancing with the Stars begins on September 13.
