Houston - Texas Governor and potential GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry led a huge prayer rally on Saturday -- a rally that was paid for by the anti-gay American Family Association.

Perry said "The Response" event was supposed to be a "national day of prayer." He spoke to thousands at Houston's Reliant Area, and thousands more through the internet and Christian cable channels.

"Father, our heart breaks for America," Perry said.

Perry will spend next weekend at a conservative conference in Charleston, South Carolina.

The American Family Association, sponsor of Perry's prayer rally, has been working to deprive gays and lesbians of rights for decades. The group's president, Dr. Donald Wildmon, has been claiming that gays are undermining the country since 1977.
