Washington, D.C. -
Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest gay and lesbian rights group, has endorsed President Barack Obama for a second term, which has some people wondering if they've jumped the gun.
"President Obama has improved the lives of LGBT Americans more than any President in history," said HRC President Joe Solmonese in a press release. "In 2008 we were promised change and profound change is what we got."
It is true that President Obama has helped pushed things like the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and is discouraging the Justice Department from defending the "Defense of Marriage Act."
But some gay bloggers are wondering if the HRC should have been a little more coy with its affection.
"Now that HRC has already given the President the prize he seeks, what incentive does the President, who claims he's 'evolving' on marriage, have to evolve before the election?" asked John Aravosis on AmericaBlog. "HRC clearly hasn't learned the lessons of the first two years of the Obama presidency. You don't get anything for being nice to the man."
The Human Rights Campaign has compiled an entire webpage of the President's LGBT rights accomplishments to justify their endorsement.
