Chicago, IL -
Chicago’s bid to host the 2006 Gay Games® received another boost today as a major Chicago law firm announced it had agreed to provide pro bono legal services on issues related to contracts, trademark and licensing. Chicago-based Hinshaw & Culbertson will serve as counsel to Chicago Games, Inc. (CGI) as that organization prepares its bid to host Gay Games VII in 2006.
Hinshaw & Culbertson is a national law firm with 400 lawyers in 24 offices coast-to-coast. The firm offers a full-service practice, with an emphasis in commercial and defense litigation, corporate, environment, employment and construction law, as well as the representation of professionals in their liability and risk management matters. They provide services to a range of clients in financial services, construction, health care, not-for-profit, insurance, legal, manufacturing, real estate, transportation and other industries. Firm clients also include government agencies, municipalities and schools. Hinshaw was founded in 1934 and is currently celebrating 70 years in business. The firm is headquartered in Chicago, and maintains offices in 10 US states.
Openly gay Hinshaw partner Gary Medler will be the principal Hinshaw & Culbertson attorney working on the project, though other Hinshaw attorneys will be used as needed. Medler is a cyclist, having won three medals - a gold, silver and bronze – in the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney. “Hinshaw’s support for the effort to bring the Gay Games to Chicago is representative of their commitment to diversity, but also their recognition that a successful Gay Games will yield important social and economic benefits to the City of Chicago and our region. We look forward to assisting CGI in the preparation of its bid and, if Chicago is selected, in the successful presentation of an exciting Gay Games VII.” Medler and other Hinshaw attorneys have already begun work for CGI, a process Medler characterized as “extremely smooth and clear-cut.”
“We are grateful to Hinshaw & Culbertson for the generation donation of these important services,” said Renae Ogletree, a member of the CGI Board of Directors. “The attorneys at Hinshaw understand that we seek excellent counsel that will also allow us to retain a spirit of cooperation with the Federation of Gay Games, our partner in Gay Games VII should we be selected to host them. With Hinshaw’s support, if we win the right to host the 2006 Gay Games, we will be able to quickly and confidently implement our operational plan.”
