The 15th Annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival (formerly known as The Adam Baran Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Film Festival), presented by the Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Cultural Foundation (HGLCF), is rapidly approaching and we are delighted to announce that we'll be presenting exceptional films. This year's festival will be Thursday, May 27 through Sunday, May 30 at the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. The Opening Night World Premiere Film Screening titled, REVOLUTION, a performance documentary starring the irrepressible Margaret Cho with Special Guest Director/Producer-Lorene Machado. Other films include Sundance crowd-pleaser A TOUCH OF PINK starring Kyle McLaughlan (SEX AND THE CITY), and the award-winning film EATING OUT by Q. Allen Brocka (Rick & Steve Adventures, Seventy and Roberta Loved).
As always, the festival always includes a free public educational screening on Saturday afternoons. This year, the festival offers the highly-acclaimed documentary, BROTHER OUTSIDER: THE LIFE OF BAYARD RUSTIN on Saturday May 29. The film focuses on Bayard Rustin, an out, unapologetic African-American man who was Martin Luther King's mentor and a long-time Civil Rights activist.
The Gala Reception will be held Saturday, May 29, 2004 @ 6pm at the Henry R. Luce Pavilion at the Honolulu Academy of Arts at 900 South Beretania Street. The cast and producers of the following films, ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK, THE VISITOR and CASTING COUCH will be on hand for the festivities.
