Senate votes to repeal DADT, Obama promises to sign

The Senate voted 65-31 on Saturday to repeal the controversial don't ask, don't tell policy banning gays and lesbians from serving in the military. The bill now moves to President Obama for signing.
"When that bill reaches my desk, I will sign it, and this discriminatory law will be repealed," Obama said in an email to supporters. "Gay and lesbian service members -- brave Americans who enable our freedoms -- will no longer have to hide who they are."
"Today, we have righted a wrong. We have repealed a policy that was both morally repugnant and counter-productive to our national security. We have taken an extraordinary step toward equal rights for all Americans. Today, we have done the right thing," Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Illinois) said in a statement release moments after the historic vote.
