Vote Naked Illinois absentee ballot ad flawed

Chicago, IL - An absentee ballot placed in newspaper ads for Vote Naked Illinois, a non-partisan get-out-the-vote campaign, were flawed by a typo.

Ads placed in Thursday editions of the RedEye and the Chicago Reader contained the wrong address for the Chicago Board of Elections on the pre-printed absentee ballot. A typo in the address block of the mail-in form listed the board's address as 69 N. Washington St., instead of 69 W. Washington St.

The newspaper inset was part of the Vote Naked Illinois campaign sponsored by Equality Illinois, Roosevelt University and Rock the Vote, which capitalizes on recent changes in Illinois election law that allow properly registered voters to vote by mail for any reason.

Equality Illinois CEO Bernard Cherkasov tells ChicagoPride.com that dedicated route masters with the U.S. Post Office have been made aware of the error and will deliver the applications, which are otherwise properly addressed, to the Chicago Board of Election.

"We do not anticipate any delays," said Cherkasov.

Eligible voters can request absentee applications, not affected by the typo, through the VoteNakedIllinois.org website. Correct forms are also available for city voters at chicagoelections.com or by calling 312-269-7900.

Registered voters can submit absentee ballots through Oct. 28.
