Joli Angel Robinson replaces longtime CEO Modesto Tico Valle

Center on Halsted Tuesday announced the appointment of Joli Angel Robinson as its new Chief Executive Officer, following an extensive, months-long national search process to replace longtime CEO Modesto Tico Valle.

"I am humbled by this opportunity to further the Center on Halsted mission of advancing the community and securing the health and well-being of the LGBTQ people,” said Robinson. “I look forward to supporting and serving alongside the Center’s staff as we expand our reach and services, foster deeper collaboration, partnerships, and impact, all while celebrating the diversity that defines us.”

Robinson has over 20 years of leadership experience in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. She comes from Housing Forward in Dallas, where she served as President/CEO. Robinson currently serves on the board of the ACLU of Texas and contributes to the North Texas LGBT Chamber of Commerce Board.

According to the announcment, Robinson's extensive background in community engagement, advocacy, and strategic planning, aligns seamlessly with the mission of Center on Halsted. Robinson is committed to strengthening engagement and relationships with BIPOC members of the community.

"I am inspired by the rich history of the Center and the dedication and passion of this community. I look forward to the collective impact we will make as we center equity in our work and play an integral role in furthering a more inclusive future in Chicagoland and beyond,” she said.

Robinson replaces Valle, who stepped down as CEO in March after serving 15 years at Center on Halsted. A national search process for a replacement was led by Kona Partners, in collaboration with various community partners, members and donors.

"We are delighted to welcome Joli Angel Robinson to our team and look forward to the ways she will use her wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to inclusivity, equity, and positive community to make a positive impact on our organization and the greater Chicagoland LGBTQ+ community,” said Victor Ravago, Chairman of the Board of Directors Center on Halsted’s Executive Committee.

Robinson will officially begin her role as CEO on January 8, 2024.

Located at 3656 N. Halsted, Center on Halsted is considered the Midwest's most comprehensive LGBTQ community center. More than 1,000 community members visit the Center every day.
