Winston-Salem, N.C. - State Rep. Larry Brown (R) of North Carolina said in a recent email that gays are "fruit loops" and now he's going to have to eat those words-- with dozens of boxes of cereal.

Equality North Carolina has pledged to send Brown a box of Froot Loops in honor of every donation they receive before 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11.

Brown recently hit "reply all" to a colleague's congratulatory message honoring another lawmaker who was getting an award from the gay group.

In his email, Brown wrote: "I hope all the queers are thrilled to see him. I am sure there will be a couple legislative fruitloops there in the audience."

"Let's show Rep. Brown and all of our elected officials that anti-LGBT slurs--and the unfair and outdated beliefs that spur them--have no place in our discourse," wrote the staff at Equality North Carolina on their website. "And let's give Rep. Brown a tangible reminder of the people of our state who refuse to put up with such trash talk by sending him Froot Loops!"

Brown has not apologized.

However, the NC House Republican leader said he had talked with Brown privately about the incident.

"I have communicated to Larry that those were not appropriate remarks," Rep. Paul Stam told the Winston-Salem Journal. "People were offended. They would not have been offended if the press had not publicized a private e-mail. Yes, Larry did what he did, but we are focused on correcting the train wreck that the Democrats did to the economy, and they are trying to change the subject."
