Documentary film about Playboy founder marks only time Hefner has granted full access

Chicago, IL - Hugh Hefner will return to Chicago on October 29th to screen Oscar-winning producer/director Brigitte Berman's new documentary "Hugh Hefner: Playboy Activist and Rebel" at the Gene Siskel Film Center.

The new documentary takes a revealing look at the outspoken, controversial founder of the Playboy empire.

The Chicago native granted Berman unprecedented access to his vast, personal archives and agreed that she would maintain creative and editorial freedom – something he'd never done before.

After more than three years of extensive research, shooting interviews throughout the United States, and editing, the final version of the film was completed in January 2010.

Berman explores Hefner's controversial lifestyle, but she also focuses on the humanitarian who has been a catalyst for progressive change on a whole array of social and political issues including gay rights.

The documentary features a "Who's Who" of the decades and controversies surrounding Hefner. With a cast of interviewees that includes Tony Bennett, James Caan, Rev. Jesse Jackson, George Lucas, Bill Maher, Jenny McCarthy, Gene Simmons and Dr. Ruth Westheimer.

Hefner will preside over a Q&A session following the screening.

The film will be shown from Oct. 29 - Nov. 4 at the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State Street. Tickets and information are available at www.siskelfilmcenter.org/hughhefner.
