Life Is Work, the first Black and Brown Trans-led social services and advocacy organization in the Midwest, has announced their first annual Chicago Trans Visibility Pageant to be held in conjunction with Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31.
The all-new event will provide an opportunity for transgender/nonbinary people to showcase their talents and win up to $5,000 in cash and prizes. It will also be a night to celebrate trans identity and activism with awards for Chicago's most prominent transgender community members.
The 2022 Trans Visibility Award Recipients are: Dr.Maya Green, LaSaia Wade, Elise Malary, Monroe Diamond, ZiRenae Young, and Jae Rice. We will also be awarding Trisha Holloway Riddle as the Lois Bates Trailblazer Honoree, Reyna Ortiz as the Miss Kitty Teanga Trailblazer Honoree, and Dr.Lourdes Ashley Hunter as My Sister's Keeper LifeTime Achievement Award for their outstanding work in lifting up the community.
The event will take place at Kehrein Center for the Arts from 7-11 p.m. with a VIP reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. General Admission is $25, VIP tickets are $65 and General Admission for BIPOC trans/nonbinary people is free. All attendees must be fully vaccinated.
International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual awareness day celebrated around the world. The day is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of transgender and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice.
