White House proposes LGBTQ protections for Obamacare; removed by previous president

Former president struck the words 'sexual orientation' and 'gender identity' from anti-discrimination list in 2020
Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said that the White House is committed to adding LGBTQ protections to the Affordable Care Act. The law is popularly known as "Obamacare."
Original protections were removed by the previous presidential administration in 2020, stiking out "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" from the list of anti-discrimination protections.
"Today's rule is part of the Biden-Harris Administration's ongoing efforts to ensure an equitable health care sustem as we continue to make coverage more accessible and addordable," Sec. Becerra said in a statement.
The move will increase the options for LGBTQ persons looking for health care coverage in 2023. It would prevent cost increases and service reductions imposed on specifically LGBTQ patients for LGBTQ-related health issues.
In the end it increases access for LGBTQ persons, said LGBTQ advocacy group Lambda Legal.
