Northalsted bars begin to reinstate vaccination requirements as COVID-19 metics rise

After taking last year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Northalsted Market Days returns Aug. 6 - 8 in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood.

It comes at a time when the city is seeing its average daily number of new cases more than double in a matter of weeks, which sparked concern from Howard Brown Health.

“Events on the North Side inevitably impact all parts of the city,” said David Ernesto Munar, President and CEO of Howard Brown Health. “Future lockdowns are assured unless we undertake mitigation strategies now.”

The health provider released a statement Wednesday encouraging Market Days and the Pride Parade implement a series of precautions, including capacity limits and mask requirements.

In response, Market Days event management issued a statement to GoPride.com:

"Northalsted Market Days will be following city guidelines regarding outdoor street festivals; we strongly encourage all attendees to be vaccinated or wear a mask to keep our community safe. Proof of vaccination may be required for entry to some venues in Chicago."

Proof of vaccination for entry to outdoor public festivals is not required by the city. However, event organizers encourage attendees bring proof of vaccination as access to some businesses on the Northalsted strip may be limited to vaccinated guests only.

Hydrate Nightclub, 3458 N. Halsted, and Scarlet Bar, 3320 N. Halsted, Friday announced a return to vaccination requirements for entry. Scarlet will also accept a negative coronavirus test within 72 hours of entering.

Additional Northalsted businesses are expected to announce similar requirements.

This as Cook County updated its guidance on masking Friday, recommending everyone wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. The Cook County Department of Public Health continues to recommend masks be worn by unvaccinated individuals both indoors and in crowded outdoor settings.

Howard Brown Health offers COVID-19 vaccines. People are urged to call (733) 388-1700 for information and to make an appointment.
