Supreme Court hands LGBTQ victory in trans bathroom case

Washington, DC - The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling by refusing to take a case regarding the right of Gavin Grimm to use the boy's school bathroom in accordance with his gender identity.

The Gloucester County, Va. school board intended to force Grimm, a female-to-male transgender student to continue using the girls' bathroom despite his gender identity. This police was being pursued across the school district to all transgender students.

Trump-appointees Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett joined John Roberts, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan in denying the appeal.

Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito—staunch conservatives on the Court—said they would have taken up the case.

Advocacy group GLAAD was quick to point out the success.

“This is a victory for transgender students, who simply want to be themselves without worrying about being rejected or refused access to basic dignities,” chief executive Sarah Kate Ellis said.

States continue to attempt legislating a ban on transgender students using the restroom of their gender identity.
