Severe storms brought pouring, drenching rain during the midday hours Saturday prompting a delay in the opening of Pride in the Park.

The two-day outdoor festival was set to open at 2 p.m. on Saturday, but that has been delayed until 4 p.m.

“Thanks so much for being patient and weathering the storm with us-literally,” organizers posted on Instagram. “The party continues!”

At 3 p.m. crews were working to set-up staging and vendor areas as the festival prepares to open, according to GoPride.com photographer Steven Koch. Crowds have started to gather.

After skipping last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Pride in the Park returns in 2021 and expands to include a second day - Sunday, June 27.

Saturday night entertainment features Betty Who and Tiesto. Chaka Kahn and Gryffin (DJ Set) are the headliners for Sunday.

With the Chicago Pride Parade pushed for its traditional last Sunday in July to October 5, Pride in the Park has become this year's premiere LGBTQ event - wrapping-up Pride month in Chicago.
