Swim ban in effect for 5 Chicago beaches including Hollywood Beach

Chicago, IL - A swim ban is in effect today for five Chicago beaches, according to the Chicago Park District's Web site.

The ban -- which goes into effect when water conditions may be hazardous due to severe weather or high E. coli bacteria levels -- went into effect for 31st Street, Oak Street, North Avenue, Hollywood Avenue and Leone beaches.

A swim advisory -- which urges the public to take caution when water conditions are unpredictable due to the weather or an increased risk of illness due to high E. coli levels -- went into effect for Calumet, Rainbow, South Shore, 63rd Street, 12th Street, Montrose Avenue, Foster Avenue Hartigan and Jarvis Avenue beaches, the Web site stated.

All other beaches are open for swim from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., depending on the weather.
