Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame celebrates 20 years

Chicago, IL - The Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame is celebrating its 20th year during their annual Pride and Joy Reception this Monday, June 21.

The 2009 Hall of Fame exhibit will be on display, and nomination forms for 2010 inductions will be available. The evening will also feature a buffet of heavy hors d'oeuvres and entertainment throughout. The Pride and Joy Reception is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Circuit Night Club, 3641 N. Halsted. Tickets are $10 and available at the door.

Money raised from this event will be used to cover the expenses of the 2010 Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which is scheduled for Thursday, October 21, at the Chicago Cultural Center. The ceremony is free and open to the public. In addition, a portion of these funds will be earmarked to support the Hall of Fame's website (www.GLHallofFame.org).

The Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame is a project of the City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations' Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues. It is privately funded through donations from individual, business, organizations and fundraisers such as the Pride and Joy Reception.

Staff support for the Hall of Fame is provided by the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, members of the Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues, and volunteers.

Chicago is the only known municipality that so honors its LGBT residents. The Hall of Fame not only pays tribute to individuals and organizations but also documents the communities' heritage and diversity through its annual publication and its website (www.GLHallofFame.org).
