Chicago, IL -
A former part-time Chicago teacher has filed an employment discrimination complaint against North Park University alleging she was turned down for a tenured job because she is a lesbian.
Dr. Barbara Kelly, who worked at the University for the last two years, filed a complaint with the Chicago Commission on Human Relations on Wednesday.
The 52 year old Kelly alleges that in July school director Pauline Coffman said she couldn’t have the position because of her sexual orientation. According to Kelly, the Christian college originally recruited her.
The liberal arts college, located on the north side of Chicago, is owned and operated by the Evangelical Covenant Church. The University allows gay student groups on campus.
