Tour company Chicago Detours connects Chicagoans to their city while social distancing

To combat cabin fever and encourage safe city exploration during shelter-in-place, tour company Chicago Detours is presenting fun, weekday 20-minute talks as a "Historic Happy Hour for Curious People" and 40-minute virtual tours on weekends.

Chicago Detours' professional tour guides will share unique perspectives on topics like the everyday neighborhood architecture people are seeing on their walks and women who shaped Chicago history.

"Historic Happy Hour for Curious People" will take place Monday through Friday at 6pm. Virtual tours will take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 1pm. This Friday's talk will feature LGBT Chicago before Boystown.

The 20-minute presentation via Zoom will use historic images to share the stories of LGBT Chicagoans for over 100 years. Chicago Detours tour guide Marie will talk about Chicago's early gay neighborhood Towertown, early 20th century South Side drag performers, the creation of gay and lesbian rights organizations before Stonewall, and more.

"Grab a drink and join us," said Marie.

The LGBT history virtual tour will be repeated on Monday, April 27.

These online webinars and interactive virtual tours are free, with a $5-15 suggested donation. Registration is required via Chicago Detours' website. The Zoom platform on mobile or desktop is required to participate.
