Scene and be Seen

Chicago, IL - Well kids, as we stumbled past Halloween and brace ourselves for Thanksgiving, there isn't a whole hell of a lot to report for things to come. However, we will give you the dish on what you've been missin'!

Crobar Chicago opened with much fanfare across the land of windy. Friday night opening ceremonies included visits from notables such as Billy Corrigan , P Diddy, and Michael Jordan. Sunday kicked it into overdrive with Tony Moran on the main, and Greg Drescher in the Suite. The following week saw David Knapp rip up the Main Drag. Stay tuned for much from the house of Anthem with scheduled spinnings from Lydia Prim, Manny Lehman, Abel, and Roland Belmares. Welcome back, Crobar. We're glad to see you. Drama on the dance floor! Seems the Legendary Mondays and their not so legendary leader Turd Bardot have been set free from the house of Zen. Sagging numbers and dillusions of grandeur on the part of Turd forced management to send the night south for the winter. Not to sweat though, Mondays have taken on the criminal shape of House Arrest with Lego, Diz & Derrick Carter as inmates. Now in capable hands, the night has a fighting chance.

Halloween saw fun and dissapointment as Hex Hector tore up Hydrate Chicago and Boy George backed out of Zentra's spin-der-fest. Seems Boy had some contractual obligations with Rosie O'Donnell and her new Broadway venture (starring the Boy) and was forced to vacate several bookings. However, Hex did show up at Hydrate and had the kids simply DRIPPING. Hector hasn't been in Chicago since the Fusion days so it was good to have him back. Circuit's Hallow-queen was a fun gathering, with Lady Bunny giving the audience her signature saucy review. DJ's Suzie Wong and Shanda Leer made the kids move like they haven't in quite some time in the land of Cirquito. Music 101 helped X Sport kick off the opening of their new facility at 230 W. North Ave on the 31st. Afterward the Music crew tapped it over to Spybar for the afterparty. Attendees said the facility was quite that way and the party wasn't so bad either.

Tuesdays are all WET on Belmont Ave lately. 930 Lounge is the new home of WET, with luscious tunes and good vibes provided by Eric Daly, Luis M (my baby boy!) and Jim Belanger. Big Wig on Division hosted its last Local Sound party with Chris Gin and company on the 30th of October. Mystic Bill gave the kids dirty sounds abound along with Gin. No word yet as to where the Local crew will be relocating. Stay tuned for details.

Cell Block is now under new ownership and lining up some tangible talent to tickle the turntables. Rumors of DJ Plez on Sundays and Mike Serafini on Thursdays are sure to raise eyebrows of the Halsted St. boogie crowd. J. J and Sal kick off their Saturday party on November 15th with a Disco Bloodbath party at Spin Nightclub. Sounds for this kick off provided by Erik Hall. Watch for more from this dynamic duo of clublandia……they have only just begun to rock the club scene. Things you may take for granted that are still crazy after all these years: Wet Boxers at Spin on Fridays, Ralphi & Izzy on the last Wednesday of every month for the Disco feel. Mike Serafini @ Cocktail on Tuesdays livin' for the underground. MiMi Marks @ the Baton Show Lounge. Jim Lewis on Fridays with Manhole reloaded. Roscoe's Drag contest on Tuesdays, and last but not least……..showtune Mondays at Sidetrack.

Well, that's it for now. My friend Misha always says: Never hold your farts in.
They travel up your spine, into your brain,
and that is where you get crappy ideas from.
